Mountain biking is in my blood. I started riding mountain bikes nearly 25 years ago at age 14 and I still feel like a kid everytime I get out on the trail. There is something that is released in the mountains. Not only do I experience the exhilaration of riding down a swoopy singletrack or the challenge of a long climb--I also feel closer to God. This is one of the primary ways He taps into my heart.
In the book, Wild at Heart, John Eldredge passes along this quote "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come aline, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive." So part of my devotion time with God has become mountain biking. A lot of healing has happened out there.
A few years ago I was riding with some close friends and it began to occur to us that getting on the trail seems to draw out a lot of good conversation. While women seem to have the "sit-and-share" thing down, we guys seem to need something different. A shared challenge. After all, we are men. Soon after, Mountain Bike Ministry was born with the vision of riding while drawing closer to God, to ourselves, and to each other.
Enjoy the ride,
Aaron Leighton
